The Intimate Wellness Gap No One Talks About — And the Solution Women Have Been Waiting For

The Intimate Wellness Gap No One Talks About — And the Solution Women Have Been Waiting For

When it comes to wellness, we talk about everything from diet and exercise to hydration and supplements. We talk about heart health and brain health and everything in between. But there’s one critical yet consistently overlooked area of the body: our intimate zone.

As women, this area is incredibly important… yet it remains one of the least understood, the least talked about, and the least protected. We have supplements for our gut, serums for our skin, trackers for our sleep, gadgets for our nervous system, and biohacks for almost every organ. But the part of the body that is uniquely delicate, uniquely complex, and uniquely affected by outside environments? Historically ignored.

For decades, women have quietly struggled with irritation, infections, pH imbalances, and discomfort after doing something as simple and joyful as getting into the water. Lakes, pools, hot tubs, cold plunges, oceans, baths — water has always been part of our lifestyle, our fitness, our play, our vacations, and our rituals. But for many women, water has also been the trigger for days or weeks of irritation, burning, odor, discharge, or general “something’s off” feelings that we’re told are normal.

They aren’t. And they never were.

The Reality: Women’s Intimate Wellness Has Been Under-funded, Under-researched, and Under-served

While the wellness industry has exploded — with new products for glowing skin, optimal gut health, brain performance, immunity, hormones, and longevity — women’s intimate wellness has remained a blind spot. It’s one of the only categories where proactive solutions are virtually nonexistent. Instead, we’ve been conditioned to accept reactive treatments: creams, gels, antibiotics, antifungals, “feminine washes,” and quick fixes that address symptoms but not the cause. It's like plugging a leak with duct tape, and being surprised when another leak pops up a month later.

As a health coach with a deep understanding of the microbiome, toxins, and the interconnectedness of body systems, I find this both frustrating and, honestly, heartbreaking. We deserve better. And as a woman who has dealt with my own intimate balance struggles — and watched countless other women silently grapple with these issues — the lack of solutions felt inexcusable.

When I needed options the most, all I found were reactive treatments that kept me stuck in a cycle of treatments that led to more imbalance and so on. It was an emotional rollercoaster, and honestly, I felt pretty helpless at some points.

But as a wellness professional, I'm all about proactive, holistic wellness. I want options that prevent the problem before it begins. The fact that this simply didn’t exist for intimate care — especially in water environments — lit a fire in my belly.

So I created the thing I desperately needed.

The Birth of The V Seal — A First-of-Its-Kind Solution

The V Seal was born of necessity. And honestly? I’m still shocked nothing like it has ever existed!

The V Seal is one of the only options for proactive intimate care, and it is the only option that protects your intimate zone in water.

Designed as a thin, transparent, medical-grade adhesive film, The V Seal acts as a temporary external barrier that keeps your vaginal opening clean, dry, and protected while you swim, float, soak, plunge, or relax in any water environment.

It’s waterproof, hypoallergenic, latex-free, BPA- and phthalate-free, nontoxic, and incredibly comfortable — like a breathable second skin. Thanks to microscopic perforations, it allows oxygen and vapor to pass through (so your skin can still breathe), while blocking bacteria, parasites, chemicals, chemical byproducts, sediment, and water itself.

With The V Seal, you’re not only protected — you’re preserving your balance.

Here’s what The V Seal helps you maintain:

1. A Balanced pH

Chlorine, saltwater, bacteria, and soaps can all disrupt the delicate acidic pH that keeps your vaginal ecosystem stable.

2. A Healthy Microbiome

Your protective Lactobacillus bacteria are sensitive and can be easily disrupted by chemicals or pathogens in water.

3. Toxin Defense

The vaginal wall is highly absorbent — meaning chemicals in water enter the bloodstream far more easily than most women realize.

4. Leak-Proof Period Protection

Because The V Seal keeps water out, it also keeps menstrual fluid in. Many women use it as a discreet, worry-free option for swimming during their period.

There has never been a product like this — and honestly, it’s long overdue.

Water Isn’t As Clean As It Looks — And Women Pay the Price

We love water. We seek it out. We play in it, heal in it, and relax into it. But even the cleanest-looking water can contain risks invisible to the naked eye. And because the vaginal opening is sensitive, absorbent, and vulnerable, what’s in the water often ends up affecting us the most.

Here are some unsettling truths I learned while researching why women experience so much irritation after swimming or soaking:

1. Most pools contain E. coli — even with chlorination.

According to the CDC, the majority of swimming pools test positive for fecal bacteria, including E. coli. Chlorine helps, but it isn’t perfect — especially when pools are overcrowded or poorly maintained.

2. Chlorine kills bacteria — including the good kind.

Lactobacillus (your healthy vaginal bacteria) is essential for pH stability and protection against infections. Chlorine doesn’t discriminate — it can disrupt your vaginal microbiome within minutes.

3. Chlorine and chloramines irritate and inflame the vaginal tissue.

These disinfectants can cause micro-tears and dryness, making the tissue more vulnerable to pathogens and pH imbalances.

4. Pool chemicals absorb quickly through the vaginal wall.

This part of the body is highly vascularized (meaning lots of blood vessels) and highly absorbent. Chemicals like chlorine, bromine, and their byproducts can enter the bloodstream far more efficiently than they would through other parts of the body.

5. People treat pools like communal bathtubs.

This is the part no one wants to think about:

  • 40% of adults admit to peeing in the pool (and many more don’t admit it)

  • Many skip pre-swim showers — even after sweating, exercising, or sitting in a sauna

  • Some enter pools with residual diarrhea or other contaminants

  • Children introduce even more bacteria into the water

When you consider all of this, the question becomes:

Why wouldn’t women protect their intimate zone before getting into the water?

The answer is simple:
Because there has never been a way to do so — until now.

The V Seal Works Everywhere Women Go

Whether the water is crystal clear or questionable at best, The V Seal gives women control, protection, and peace of mind.

It works in:

  • Chlorinated pools

  • Hot tubs (where bacteria thrive in warm jets)

  • Lakes (often full of sediment, runoff, and microorganisms)

  • Oceans (salt, bacteria, and parasites can all disrupt pH)

  • Cold plunges (shared water = shared microbiomes)

  • Bath tubs (even “natural” bath products can disrupt pH)

  • Resort pools (no explanation needed)

The V Seal protects against:

  • Bacteria

  • Parasites

  • Chemicals

  • Chemical byproducts

  • Sediment

  • High chlorine

  • Scum buildup in jets

  • Overcrowded water environments

Even water that looks clean can contain invisible risks. The V Seal provides a gentle, breathable, effective barrier so women can enjoy water fully, without the aftermath.

Why Proactive Care Matters

In nearly every category of health, prevention is valued. We wear sunscreen before sun exposure. We wear gloves while cleaning. We take probiotics before antibiotics. We use seatbelts, helmets, mouthguards, and blue-light glasses.

Yet when it comes to the most delicate part of our body, we’ve been taught to simply hope for the best — and deal with symptoms later.

Reactive care may be more profitable for companies, but proactive care is more empowering for women.

Women deserve better. Women deserve options. Women deserve protection before irritation or imbalance occurs.

That’s why I built The V Seal:
to give women the ability to protect, preserve, and feel confident in their intimate wellness — especially in water.

Your Wellness Shouldn’t Stop at the Water’s Edge

Your intimate health is not a footnote in your wellness journey. It’s central to your comfort, confidence, and quality of life. And for too long, women haven’t had the tools to care proactively for this part of their bodies (especially when water is involved).

The V Seal is just one part of an intimate care routine. If you're prone to imbalance, read this article about what you can do to care proactively (and holistically) for your intimate wellness.

Empowered care begins with awareness and transparency. Down with shame and stigma. We should feel confident to own our health journey through the ups and the downs.

You deserve to feel good in your body. You deserve proactive care. You deserve protection that honors the complexity and beauty of your intimate ecosystem.

I'm so glad you're part of the movement... this is just the beginning!
